Finally some good news!

My vet smiled today. It doesn’t happen very often. He said he was ‘over the moon’ about how Dino’s face is healing, at last. We had a bit of a scare yesterday as it was sore and puffy again and he didn’t seem himself but this just seems to have been a random thing. Maybe something got stuck in it or scratched it or something.

Today we got the mouth gag on without sedative and Goncalo had a good poke around in the socket where the tooth was. He removed no infectious material or bone fragments. Dino gave no pain reaction at all. This is exactly what Goncalo told me he was hoping for after last months’ alarming visit and I couldn’t be happier. He said the osteoma (bone tumour – his lovely lumpy bits) has not spread under the two adjacent teeth and this is *extremely* good news. If it stays where it is then he’s always going to look a bit funny but there should be no problems eating and no reason to expect problems in the future. It could still spread in the future of course, but at the moment we’re on track.

Here’s a picture of Baby today. He was a bit grumpy as he wasn’t out in the field as he was waiting for the vet:

I told Goncalo I really really don’t give a s**t what he looks like! He’s the most beautiful horse in the world to me anyway. Just as long as it’s all ok. Goncalo looked quite shocked – I think he was expecting to be the bearer of bad news as much as I was expecting to hear it!

I’m so relieved. I feel like I’m in a bit of a daze.
