Introducing Dino

Time to start a Dino blog I think 🙂 The first couple of posts are cross-posted from my personal blog which is read by non-horsey types so you can skip over the two-word explanations of obvious things!!! I thought I’d go back and start at the beginning for anyone who’s not been following and to keep this blog complete 🙂

Meet Dino:

Dino is 5 years old. His birthday is in April (like Pico’s!). He’s PRE (or Andalusian for the uninitiated) x Clydesdale. The ‘G’ on his flank is the stud brand (Gray’s PRE Stud) as he’s being sold by the people who bred him. He’s been backed earlier this year* and has been hacked out a bit but not done very much. He’s sooooo calm and chilled he is perfect for us! What we were looking for is a horse that had not done very much so M and I could teach him lots of stuff but was calm enough that eventually some beginners (such as M’s boyfriend) can learn to ride him. We are *very* excited! He’s coming from the perfect hom – his breeder is lovely and very much treats her horses as we do. We met his mum and his dad when we saw him and they are lovely too.

He’s called Dino after the dinosaur on the Flintstones – he was soooo large when he was born he had to be pulled out of his mum!

Dino will be arriving on Saturday, delivered by the people who bred him – they are keen that he goes to the right home and want a bit of a nose round our livery yard I think, but I’m really pleased to be buying from someone who cares about her horses. We’ve promised to keep in touch with her and let her know how he’s getting on.

Here are a couple of videos (horrible YouTube quality – sorry!)
Firstly – Dino being lunged by the girl who backed him:

Secondly – me having a little walk on him:

So, it’s all very exciting! I guess if you can’t find me over the coming weeks I’m probably at the yard, although I really should be revising for my ACCA exams in December. Having a new pony would be a silly reason to fail them..!

*meaning he had someone riding him for the first time
