Bit of a scary week this week. My brain is all over the place with my accountancy exams so when I got up on Monday night I got Dino straight out into the school without picking his feet out. They are supposed to be picked out when he’s caught in and I usually do it before I ride but I forgot. He went ok, he’s a bit lazy at the moment now it’s got dark and cold (which happened last year) but he certainly didn’t feel lame or uncomfortable in the foot.
I get off him, think ‘Oh I should make sure I pick his feet out’, fetched the hoof pick, picked up the left front foot and promptly had a heart attack as there was a sizeable screw lodged in the groove alongside his frog 😮 😮 😮 It was packed into lots of mud and as I gently moved some of that it fell out so I was pretty certain it hadn’t actually punctured the frog anywhere but we treated it like it had a few days anyway, poulticing for 3 days, and then keeping him off the field until today. He hasn’t been lame, there was no discharge or any sign of injury in the frog so I think we’ve been SUPER lucky!
The screw:

He was back out in the field today after a walk down the lane. I tried to take his photo but he was apparently very hungry so all I got was his nose:

I did get a better shot when he was distracted:

He’s very fluffy right now which I like and I’m hoping he’ll be a bit less down soon. Been bitterly cold here in London today though – almost feels like it might snow soon!
